- Academic Staff Union of Universities has announced an indefinite strike action
- ASUU which tasked its local branches to conduct referendum among members on whether or not to proceed on an indefinite strike has adopted the overwhelming position of the branches
- Poor funding of universities, part-payment of salaries of lecturers and the kidnap of two lecturers of the University of Maiduguri by the Boko Haram are among major reasons for the strike action
Nigerian students are set for a lengthy stay at home as the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has embarked on an indefinite strike action.
The lecturers decided to go on strike after an estensive deliberation at its meeting held at the University of Abuja from Friday.
Consequently, the union has directed all members against going to teach or involving themselves in any academic activity, Premium Times reports.
According to a statement signed by Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU president, the union explored all means of negotiation before the decision to embark on an indefinite strike action was reached.

The statement is expected to be made public at a press conference in Abuja on Monday morning, the news-outlet revealed.
“The national executive council (NEC) of ASUU met at the university of Abuja main campus, Giri, on the 12th of August 2017 to consider the results of a referendum from all branches in a bid to ascertain ways of convincing government to implement outstanding aspects of the 2009 agreement and MoU of 2013,” it read.
“The result of the referendum showed that an overwhelming majority of the branches of our union voted for the strike.
“In the light of the foregoing, and having exhausted all avenues to get government to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement and the 2013 MoU as well as related demands, resolved to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action commencing Sunday, 13th August 2017,” the ASUU president said.
Reports also have it that ASUU had earlier tasked its branches to conduct referendum among members on whether or not an indefinite strike should be called.
The position of the local branches on whether to proceed on a strike action was reviewed in the Abuja meeting which ended in the early hours of today, Monday August 14.
The overwhelming position of the local branches was consequently adopted.
Poor funding of universities, part-payment of salaries of lecturers and the kidnap of two lecturers of the University of Maiduguri by the Boko Haram are among major reasons for the strike action.

ABUJA – ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will today take a final decision on whether it will proceed on strike over unresolved issues with the Federal Government or not.
Unconfirmed report had it that the union met yesterday at an undisclosed venue to take decision on the looming strike.
But when Vanguard sought confirmation of the meeting from the National President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi last night, he simply invited our Correspondent to attend a press briefing at Labour House today.
But information had it that Chairmen of state chapters of the union met in Abuja, with the national leadership where they collated and reviewed the results of the referendum they conducted in their separate chapters.
The chairmen whom majority of them had approved a nationwide strike, deliberated alongside the National Executive Council, NEC the duration the strike would last.
Recall that the NEC had met at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi on the 22nd and 23rd July, 2017, and deliberated extensively on issues arising from the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement, the 2013 MoU and other related issues and decided to conduct a referendum at the branch congresses on the next line of action.
According to a letter signed by the union’s National President Prof. Ogunyemi, the issues at stake included payment of fractions/non-payment of salaries; non-payment of earned academic allowances, non-release of operational licence of NUPENCO, retired professors and their salaries, university staff schools, and funds for the revitalisation of public universities

Man Utd produce best showing since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, while Nemanja Matic looks a steal at £40m

United back to their swashbuckling best

This was the best performance by Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. Actually, in terms of pure theatre and capturing the essence of what United teams should stand for, it was the best since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Attacking in waves at breakneck pace with a relentlessness that suffocates the opposition, this was a swashbuckling exhibition of football that showcased just how good they can be as an attacking unit when their expensive parts align so fluidly. West Ham United simply could not live with them and, in the end, were fortunate it was only 4-0. There were times last season when Manchester United dominated the lesser lights but could not score but even then they did not dominate and excite in anything like this way and, crucially, in Romelu Lukaku, they now have a striker who does not look like he is going to miss too often.

This was a dream home debut for United’s new No 9. Getting off to a good start invariably matters so much for big money signings these days and the Belgian was irresistible, announcing himself to a delirious Old Trafford by crashing a thundering strike in off a post to finish off a stunning move on the break. Then in the second half, Lukaku underlined his threat from set-pieces with a well-taken header. He could smell a hat-trick and the only disappointment was that it failed to materialise, with a good block from Pablo Zabaleta denying him a third goal.

Matic and Pogba … United’s new midfield axis

Ferguson once described Eric Cantona as the “can opener” for United back in the early 1990s and one has to wonder if Mourinho will come to apply a similar phrase to Nemanja Matic.

He might not offer the stardust of some signings but if this is the sort of liberating effect the Serbia midfielder has on Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford most notably, but also United’s other attacking players then he will become a most prized possession.

Antonio Conte, the Chelsea manager, will watch this dazzling 90 minutes and wonder how badly the champions have erred by selling the 29-year-old. On this evidence, and in a chaotic transfer market, £40 million looks a steal.

The tone was set when Matic chased down Pedro Obiang, forcing the West Ham midfielder into conceding possession and set Marcus Rashford tearing off upfield, the England striker slipping the deftest of passes into Lukaku to ram home. No wonder Mourinho talked so highly of Matic in the lead up to this

The Erudite family takes over Futo.

From the word Erudite meaning scholars or learned ones, information reaching us is that some learned, political and very influential students have come together to form an Academo-Socio-Political and cultural group know as the Erudites.

It is rumored that this very group has been involved in humanitarian and philanthropic activities around Futo since this year, like hosting of free Tutorials, giving out of academic textbooks etc.
They've actually helped a student Enterprenure own a shop of her own at Poly Junction along Nekede road, they've also helped some students Settle their academic and accommodation problems, and in their just concluded general meeting which was on 11th August, they gave out scholarship to a student.
They claim to be ready to do even more.

It is said that the only Extra Curricular activity done in Futo is Politics, so there is a possibility that this is a political group.
Nevertheless, Even if it's a political movement, they seem to have achieved in just few months what other political groups have not achieved in over 15 years.

Thank you for reading kingdavidpeter blog.

Judging APC in 2 years is impatience, wait till 2019 – Okorocha tells Nigerians

Chairman of Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Chief Rochas Okorocha, has asked Nigerians to wait till 2019 before passing judgment on the APC led administration.

Okorocha said the country’s leaders were working hard on a daily basis and that Nigerians should be patient with the current government.

The governor said this in his speech during the Federal Government and PGF parley on Policy Synergy in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

He recalled that the APC came to power in 2015, when Nigeria was already battling with an ailing economy, insecurity, corruption and other challenges.

“We want to appeal to Nigerians not to judge us from the past sins; we have only been in the mantle of leadership of this great country for two years.

“You should judge us when the mandate entrusted to us expired,” he said.

Okorocha condemned agitation by people from some sections of the country, who were calling for secession.

“We are one united country and Nigeria will always remain indivisible; we don’t know who is Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo. Our determination is to stamp out hunger and bring democratic dividend to the citizens,” he said.

Host governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, in his welcome address, said APC governors had a duty of ensuring accountability, transparency and good governance.

“The enthusiasm and patriotism of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo show that the country is getting it right” he said.

OK... ALL Buhari's Family Members, Security Aides, Cooks, Return From UK, As Osinbajo Receives Instruction From Above To Be On Stand-By

It has been confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari is slated to return to Nigeria this week, as some family members of the President and his wife’s Security Aides, arrived Abuja on Monday night.

Recall, that Buhari has been in the United Kingdom, UK, since May 7, undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment. Before He left, he handover to his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, as the Acting President.

Confirming Buhari’s arrival, Mrs Buhari’s Aide said: “The information just reached me now from the wife of the President, that everything is set for the return of Mr President to Nigeria. Already, some of the President’s family members and Security Aides of madam (Aisha Buhari), have just returned from London.

“The wife of the President may either leave London on Wednesday, or decide to come home with the President anytime soon. We have been told to be on standby, because Mr President is returning any time soon this week.”

Some staff of the State House, including security operatives, also said they got a directive on Monday, asking them to be on standby for the President’s return.

The staff, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, however added that the directive did not contain any specific date for the President’s return.

“We were only instructed to be ready for the return of the President at any moment. No specific date has been mentioned to us”, one of the staff said.

Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, had last Tuesday, quoted Buhari to have told the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, that he was making good progress, and that he would return to his duties as soon as Doctors advice.

They stripped my house bare – Jonathan

Former President, Dr. Goodluck  Ebele Jonathan, said, yesterday, that his house in Gwarimpa, Abuja, was stripped bare by thieves who carted away all movable items in the house.

Interior of former President Jonathan’s home, stripped bare by thieves.
Jonathan, who spoke through a statement issued by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, last night, said the theft was discovered last month, after which it was reported to relevant police authorities.

He said six of those arrested by the police were actually policemen guarding the house, contrary to confirmation by FCT Police Command on Monday that only four policemen were arrested in respect of the burglary.

The statement read:  “Following series of enquiries from journalists and other concerned Nigerians on the extent of the reported vandalisation and theft in the house of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan located in Gwarimpa, Abuja, we, therefore, would like to make the following clarifications: The theft was discovered last month upon which a report was duly lodged with the relevant police authorities.

“The police immediately commenced investigations which led to the arrest and detention of some suspects, six of whom were policemen, even as investigations continue.

“The house, which the former President bought from CITEC estate developers in 2004, was totally stripped bare by the thieves who stole every movable item in the house, including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet and electrical fittings, as well as all internal doors and frames.

“However, contrary to exaggerated reports in some media, only six television sets, three refrigerators and one gas cooker were stolen. Being that the house is a modest, a 4-bedroom duplex, it couldn’t have been fitted with “36 Plasma television sets and about 25 refrigerators” as falsely reported by some media outfits.

“We thank all Nigerians for their show of concern and wish to convey the former President’s goodwill to all Nigerians.”

A security source involved in the investigation had said by the time family members of the former President were alerted to the looting early this month, the house had been stripped bare.

The source also said two dealers who had been main recipients of the stolen items were said to have closed down their shops at Panteka market and have since remained at large.

The source also revealed that the looting was discovered when a neighbour noticed “severe damage  in the house” and called a member of President Jonathan’s family to ask whether the house was undergoing renovation.

The former President was said to have personally gone to inspect the property after which he reported the vandalism to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

“After a team of officers dispatched to the scene confirmed the crime, Mr. Idris was said to have ordered the arrest of the three police officers who were still on guard duty at the residence.  They were arrested about two weeks ago,” the source stated.

A trader at Panteka market, who confessed to being close to one of the fleeing buyers of the stolen items, according to sources, said the police officers first brought some items to the market for sale in early 2016.

“It all started sometimes around March 2016 when a mobile police sergeant came to Tipper Garage market and brought some items for sale. He approached one of the wholesalers to buy them, but the trader said he does not buy items from an unconfirmed owner.

“The officer who identified himself as Sergeant Musa told the trader that he was one of the security men guarding Mr. Jonathan’s private residence at Gwarimpa. He took the trader to follow him to confirm that he was not a thief who had come to sell off stolen properties in the market.

‘’The trader followed him to the residence where he met two other policemen, an Inspector and a Sergeant. They convinced him that the items were part of gifts to them,’’ the source had said.

Sources said it was noticed subsequently that the stream of transaction had no end, as Sergeant Musa continued to invite the trader to the residence to pick up fresh items.

The source said: “At a point, the trader became scared when he suspected foul play and told Sergeant Musa that he was no longer interested in the transaction.  However, the officer later got another customer, a wholesaler in the market, who would eventually buy almost 80 per cent of all the properties removed from  President Jonathan’s residence.

Interior of former President Jonathan’s home, stripped bare by thieves.

Jonathan had lived in the house for about a year when he was vice president. His mother was also said to have lived in the house after the former President moved to Aso Rock Villa upon becoming Acting President in 2010.

Although Mr Ikechukwu Eze confirmed the story on Monday, he did not, however state what was stolen in the house.

Also cofirming the incident on Monday, spokesman of FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, had said in a statement:  “The FCT Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has commenced full-fledged investigation into the case of theft in the Gwarimpa residence of former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“Preliminary police investigation on the matter has revealed that some items were found to be missing in the house.

“Meanwhile, the Policemen who are supposed to be on guard duty at the house have been detained for questioning.

“Investigation to find out what actually happened is currently in progress.  The command wants to assure all that the result of findings on the on-going investigation will be made public.”

Young Musician Commits Suicide After He Talked About It On Facebook And His Friends Thought He Was Joking (Photos)

A young Zambian man identified as Mpanjilwa Mulwanda, who committed suicide by hanging himself on July 24, barely days after making a joke about it on Facebook.

His death is currently trending on Zambia Social Media and according to multiple Facebook sources, during a chat with his friends on Friday, July 21, he made it known that he was going to take his life but they all laughed it off. Infact some even encouraged him to do it.

He posted a photo with a rope tied around his neck and his tongue out as he posed for a selfie, but friends thought he was just goofing around.

A concerned Zambian, Simon Freeman, wrote on his death, he said:

“I never knew Mpanjilwa Mulwanda personally but after learning what transpired, seemed he mentioned taking his life to his friends who took it as a joke & probably never talked him out as much as they should have.
I know how friendship is but anyway, one thing this has personally taught me is we should learn to encourage love amongst ourselves.
“You never know what people are going through & just a few encouraging words from you could be what would stop someone from doing something unimaginable, we really need more wise & encouraging people for a better tomorrow.
It’s so unfortunate the brother is gone & nothing can be done about that but we can definitely avoid more incidents like this by loving one another more than expressing hate all in trying to seem like a star. R.I.P Mpanjilwa”

Another Zambian Facebook user, Joseph Kamfwa called on the police to arrest those friends who encouraged him to take his his life.

“ZAMBIA POLICE, Do people a favor- arrest and question all those kids who were pushing their friend to commit suicide.
They are as guilty as someone charged with 2nd degree murder. It’s high time Zambians learned limits to conversation”
See screenshots of some of the posts and photos he made on Facebook before taking his life.

why you should sleep early tonight...

Some of the gravest problems we face during a day can be traced back to a brutally simple fact: that we have not had enough sleep the night before.

To a surprising, and almost humiliating extent, some of the gravest problems we face during a day can be traced back to a brutally simple fact: that we have not had enough sleep the night before.

The idea sounds profoundly offensive. There are surely greater issues than tiredness. We are likely to be up against genuine hurdles: the economic situation, politics, problems at work, tensions in our relationship, the family…

These are true difficulties. But what we often fail to appreciate is the extent to which our ability to confront them with courage and resilience is dependent on a range of distinctly ‘small’ or ‘low’ factors: what our blood sugar level is like, when we last had a proper hug from someone, how much water we’ve drunk – and how many hours we’ve rested.

We tend to resist such analyses of our troubles. It can feel like an insult to our rational, adult dignity to think that our sense of gloom might in the end stem, centrally, from exhaustion. We’d sooner identify ourselves as up against an existential or socio-cultural crisis than see ourselves as sleep-deprived.

We’d sooner identify ourselves as up against an existential or socio-cultural crisis than see ourselves as sleep-deprived.
Yet we should be careful of under- but also of over-intellectualising. To be happy, we require large serious things (money, freedom, love), but we need a lot of semi-insultingly little things too (a good diet, hugs, rest).

Anyone who has ever looked after babies knows this well. When life becomes too much for them, it is almost always because they are tired, thirsty or hungry. With this in mind, it should be no insult to insist that we never adopt a truly tragic stance until we have first investigated whether we need to have an orange juice or lie down for a while.

Probably as a hangover from childhood, ‘staying up late’ feels a little glamorous and even exciting; late at night is when (in theory) the most fascinating things happen. But in a wiser culture than our own, some of the most revered people in the land would – on a regular basis – be shown taking to bed early. There’d be competitions highlighting sensible bedtimes. We’d be reminded of the pleasures of being in bed when the last of the evening light still lingers in the sky. Our problems would not thereby disappear, but our strength to confront them would at points critically increase.

You remember the dancing senator? this is what he said in an interview about his savage dance

In an interview with National Assembly TV, dancing senator, Ademola Adeleke, who was sworn into office last week to represent Osun West in the senate, says he loves to dance and takes it as a form of exercise.

"Like we normally say there is time for everything. There is time to laugh. There is time to cry but most of the time I love dancing and I take it as an exercise. My kids got it(dancing) from me, Sina Rambo and B-Red and of course my nephew Davido. I train them and as a matter of fact, they will tell me that Dad, we can't catch up with you. I love dancing"he said

According to him, he became the face of APC campaigns some years back because of his dancing skills.

"When I joined APC briefly, I campaigned with Aregbesola and my late brother. As a matter of fact, we put what is called interload into the campaIgn because you go to most campign, it is so dry but when you put an interload into a campaign where you dance, laugh and everything, As a matter of fact, I became the face of the campaign. Without me, there is no campaign. Now that they messed up and I went to my former party, they are now using it against me that I am dancing. I even danced with my daughter. They never knew it was my daughter. They thought it was someone else but I told them that that is a lesson to all fathers, You have to be close to your daughters. I am very close to my children and that is why I dance"HE SAID

To make logical choices regarding sex is extremely important. If the choices made aren't logical, having unprotected sexual intercourse could result in unwanted pregnancy, STD’s such as herpes, pubic lice, HIV, and hurt feelings. One of the major risks of having unprotected sex is pregnancy. Pregnancy for teens, for instance, is their biggest fear of having sex as they rarely use contraceptives.

Long with the risk of pregnancy, there is always the fear of contracting a sexually transmitted disease/infection. Not all STD's or STI's are fatal, some cause mild genital irritation like pubic lice (crabs), but some can't be cured, for example herpes, and they will affect your life. The only way to prevent contracting is to be abstinent from sex, this means that you don't partake in any sexual intercourse.

As well as having to worry about pregnancy and STD's from the result of unprotected sex, emotions are also heavily involved. The media has a view of sex being the primary reason for a relationship, and exploit it in that way. Teen's relationships are mostly based on emotions; how they feel about the person. A relationship is all about trust, and partners need to communicate on how they feel about sex. If they both choose to stay abstinent, it will be more special for them if they continue to get married.

To make logical choices regarding sex is extremely important. If the choices made aren't logical, the results could be disastrous. It is important that you wait until you are mature enough to make correct and informed decisions about your sexual relationships.

Beyonce's twins.

35-year-old U.S popular singer, Beyonce, has given birth to twins in Los Angeles, according to several reports.
Beyonce, a rapper and music producer Jay Z, already have a five-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.
E! News, citing multiple unidentified sources on Saturday, reported the birth and that Jay Z and Blue Ivy were seen at a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday.
Us Weekly, also citing multiple unidentified sources, reported that the couple welcomed twins earlier this week.
“Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends,” one unidentified source told PEOPLE.
Reuters said it could not verify the reports. A representative for Beyonce did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
The celebrity news websites did not provide additional details, such as the date and time the twins were born or the sex of the infants.
Beyonce, one of the most powerful women in the music business, announced the pregnancy on her Instagram account in February along with an image of her posed in lingerie and caressing a noticeable baby bump.

The announcement got more than eight million “likes” in the first 24 hours to become the “most-liked” Instagram ever.
The R&B singer performed live at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles two weeks later, proudly displaying her swelling belly in a motherhood-themed show.
She has since posted numerous pictures of her bare baby bump on her social media accounts.
The birth of Blue Ivy caused a paparazzi storm in 2012, with New York’s Lenox Hill hospital shutting down part of its maternity wing to accommodate music’s royal couple.
Tweets have flooded the twitter on the birth, including that of Destiny’s grandchild which said: “everybody: the twins are here. me: I’ll wait for BeyoncĂ© to tell us FROM HER OWN MOUTH about Houston & Brooklyn.”
E! News said “Ring the alarm! BeyoncĂ© and Jay Z have officially welcomed twins”
“Waiting on #Beyonce to post a picture of the twins,’Mamba Out said.

How time flies. #birthday wishes

Today 30 years plus ago he was born into the home of an auspicious banker and newly graduated fine artist. With so much smile on their faces and gratitude for the successful delivery after the turbulent pregnancy, he was named IKECHUKWU (gods power).
He was given the best, life could offer a child, he is his father’s joy.

Life plays her role on them, bringing happy times, sad times, trying times, separation and togetherness.

seldom expressing himself in words his next moves are unpredicted, (took that from his father), he grew up with the exquisite desire to serve, his passion to put smiles on the face of his loved ones is unmeasurable, his selfless love and readiness to sacrifice all to make you happy is unquestionable.

You might call him quiet but that would be questioned when his discipline mode is activated. He believes in respect and discipline. His colossal appetite might make you call him a chef but he’s nowhere close to knowing the way to the kitchen.

He is a great believer of good life. He is an optimist (like his father) ….
I know so much about him but there is one I do not know.
Where he is right now.
But I am certain he is safe.
