92 immigrants deported from US to Africa

Donald Trump’s vow to tighten US borders and deport illegal immigrants is already being enforced as 92 immigrants of African origin were sent packing.

The immigrants were deported on Wednesday, January 25 on the same day the US president signed the executive actions on building the wall along the Mexican border.

90 Somalis and two Kenyans were deported and arrived aboard an American Charter Airline, Omni at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya.
The Somalis then proceeded to Mogadishu aboard a Juba Airways flight.
Daily Nation reports that they deportees were accompanied by US security officials.
Zipporah Waweru who is an official of Jomo Kenyatta airport confirmed that there had been a plane carrying Somalis in transit to Mogadishu
She however said she was not sure if they were deportees.
“They have left and to me, they looked happy so I cannot for sure tell you that they were deported or not.”
Trump had vowed to build the wall in order to prevent illegal immigrants from Mexico entering the US accusing them of bringing in crime.
Part of the executive orders he signed also include visa denial for citizens of Syria and six other middle eastern and African countries.
The other countries are: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
According to Reuters, Stephen Legomsky, the chief counsel at US citizenship and immigration services in the last administration, informed that Trump has the legal power to limit refugee admissions and the issuance of visas to specific countries if the administration determined it was in the public’s interest.
The professor at Washington University School of Law in St Louis, said: "From a legal standpoint, it would be exactly within his legal rights.
"But from a policy standpoint, it would be terrible idea because there is such an urgent humanitarian need right now for refugees.”

MASSOB rejects Obasanjo's call for 2019 Igbo presidency

- MASSOB described Obasanjo's call for an Igbo presidency in 2019 as a sign of being jittery

- The group said it cannot take the former president serious
The Movement for the Actualisation of s Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB) has lashed out former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo after he rooted for an Igbo presidency for 2019.

Obasanjo revealed this on Tuesday, January 24, while hosting the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun state chapter, at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence.

He said: “Irrespective of the thinking of the people ahead of 2019, I personally think that South-East should have a go at the Presidency too.
Vanguard however reports that MASSOB said they will not take the former president serious as he might just want to use the Igbos for his own gain.
The group said: “Nobody should rejoice over the statement by Obasanjo because he will never do or say anything good about Igbo. For him to solicit for Igbo president is not in the interest of Ndigbo.
“It could also be that he is afraid of the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the next president and he is, therefore, trying to work against the man by pretending to be on the side of the Igbo.
“We in MASSOB cannot take him serious. If he means to show remorse for all the wrong things he did against Igbo, he should first of all pay solidarity visits to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the traditional and religious leaders in this area.
Chief Abia Onyike who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party described the call for Igbo presidency as superficial.
He said: “That can happen through genuine re-structuring of the system and a return to genuine federalism. Talking of Igbo presidency is deceitful and superficial. It is either we restructure or be prepared for de-amalgamation.
Uzoma Nkem-Abonta who is a member of the House of Representative described Obasanjo as an elder statesman but wondered if he was rational.
He said: “Obasanjo calling for South East President in 2019 could be rational, could be real, it could be proper. Perhaps, he is realising all the unfair and unkind things he did to the South-East.
“Obasanjo as an elder statesman, is he sincere for calling for the presidential candidate now coming from South East knowing that the incumbent ordinarily, naturally and from political arrangement will want to do two tenures?

“Is it not an arrangement to throw spanner into political arrangement already done? With all the intent of that statement, we should look for the idea in him, the reason for saying that.”

FG moves to review minimum wage
The Nigerian government has set up committee to review the minimum wage
The federal government is set to make moves to review the current minimum wage for civil servants in Nigeria.

This review comes on the heels of several demands made by the Nigerian Labour Congress on the increase of the minimum wage from N18,000 to N90,000.

While the Nigerian government had also proposed a benchmark of N45,000, the NLC in its quest insisted on receiving N90,000 as minimum wage.

But in an interview with Punch, the special assistant to the minister of labour and productivity Nwachukwu Obidiwe said the federal government will set a tripartite committee for the review process.
Obidiwe said the committee will be set after the submission of a report from a palliative committee next week.
Obidiwe said: “The Federal Government will now set up another committee to review the minimum wage. This one will be ready next week.”

He also said the tripartite committee will be made up of the federal government, the state and labour members.

He however noted that private sectors and investors will be represented by the Nigerian Employers Consultative Assembly.
“January is almost coming to an end; the committee will be set up early February," Obidiwe said.
The federal government had earlier set up a 16-man committee in 2016, on the implementation of palliatives put in place to cushion the effect of the increase in the pump price of petrol from N86 and N86.50k to N145.

Religious Fracas! Apostle Suleiman charges Christians to kill herdsmen again, as Sultan orders arrest and prosecution

- Apostle Suleiman has charged Christians to be prepared for any one who tries to harm them

- The controversial cleric took to twitter to share affirm that Christians must prepare for any attack
- Suleiman's latest rants, comes on the heels of a call by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, for the arrest of clergymen inciting violence

Apostle Johnson Suleman, the founder of Omega Fire Ministry, has restated that Christians should defend themselves, despite controversies trailing his comment on Fulani herdsmen.

The had allegedly asked his members to kill any Fulani herdsman they find around his church premises.

Following his comment, the Department of State Security Service, DSS, attempted to arrest him in the early hours of Wednesday but Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, foiled the attempt.

The cleric had declared that ‘if he is arrested for speaking out, Nigeria will be on fire.’

On his Twitter handle @APOSTLESULEMAN, the cleric known for his predictions said he is untouchable.

“In Nigeria, people are killed nd notin hapens.but wen pple speak dey are arrested. xtians shld not go afta dem but dey shldnt come after us.

“I repeat it, Christians defend urself. Av lost countles xtian friends by this same extremists.let doz runnin der mouths continue. Mathew 11.12.

“But God said they are too small..Isaiah 54v17 will speak..there will be consequences..am from above and untouchable.ofm worldwide will react.

“The Nigerian president has ordered my arrest becos I warned against their killing innocent Christians..2trucks of armed men came for me.”

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on the Federal Government to ensure the arrest and prosecution of people who preach and promote hate speeches in the country.

Abubakar III gave this advice at the opening of a two-Day conference organised by International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), an inter-governmental organisation that promotes dialogue to build peace in conflict areas.

The conference was supported by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), in collaboration with the Inter faith Mediation Centre (IMC).

According to him, people who preach and promote hate speeches have brought friction between Christians and Muslims in the country.

Vanguard reports that he stressed the need for both religions to report preachers of hate to the security agencies for proper investigation, adding that no external people could bring peace to the country.

He identified hate preaching as a major factor responsible for friction between Christians and Muslims, saying “while we pray for peace and dialogue, preachers of hate must be reported to the security agencies.

“Therefore, we must work hard for peace and live in peace and harmony. Sultan of Sokoto “ All of us believe in dialogue that is why we are here. Some of us are outside Abuja and we have to travel long distance to be here.

“This shows what we want peace because violence, killings is contrary to the teaching of our Holy books.

“We are not here to teach ourselves the holy books, but to use them appropriately, “ Sultan said. Abubakar III called on religious leaders and their followers to support the security agencies to deal with people who promote religious intolerance in the country.

“We must tell ourselves the truth we must collaborate with authorities to deal with those who don’t want peace.

“When you keep quiet, it means you are supporting what other individuals are doing and the masses will suffer.

“I have not lost hope in this country; I have never lost hope in my relationship with Christians. “ If you did something wrong, I will call you and advise you. We must continue to show love as our religion ordered us, “ he said.

He urged the organisers and participants at the event to ensure the implementation of all the recommendations of the conference. According to him, by February the National Inter religious Council (NIREC) will meet and talk on the prevailing issues in Nigeria.

The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr Osupo Ayokunle said there was no better time for Nigerians to unite than now. Ayokunle, represented by Bishop Steven Adegbite, noted that there was no religion that encourages people to kill and advised Nigerians leaders to come together and design a road map.

The CAN president called on Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper, saying “ Only God gives and takes away life.

The conference brought together over 100 key actors from diverse communities; both Christians and Muslims, to find common ground to build and support a platform for inter religious dialogue in the country.

KAICIID is a Vienna; Austria based intergovernmental organisation that promotes and employ interreligious dialogue to prevent conflict and ensure sustainable peace and social cohesion.

The carrier name of the airline is Imo Air; it would compete with other operators in the Nigerian aviation sector. It is hoped that it would boost the revenue of the state and provide massive employment for the citizens of the state and promote business opportunities. Imo becomes the first state to have its own airline Imo becomes the first state to have its own airline. The Ndi Igbo and Imolites are expected to benefit largely from the operation of the aircraft. Importers and exporters of all kinds of commodities will make use of the new airline and reduce the over reliance of the other international airports in the country. It is expected that the cargo aspect of the Imo Air will start by April 2017. The 140-seater plane has Imo Air written boldly on it as it landed at the airport. Governor Rochas Okorocha stated that the plane would be operated by Dana airline because the state has not yet gotten the license to operate fully. Okorocha stated in his speech that he had always dreamt of putting the state on the fast lane of development and he promised not to rest until his desires for the state get fulfilled. The governor said Imo state is not affected in any way by recession. He said the state has cleared arrears of pension and has paid the salaries up to December 2016. The Imo state governor stated that the salary for January would soon be paid. The governor said “this is a happy moment in the State. The aim of going into the Air business is because I want to drive traffic to Imo State as Imo is genuinely becoming the fastest developing City outside Abuja and Lagos. For this, there is need for more airlines to cushion the effects of high traffic coming to the State. Imo government does not have an operating air license. So we needed to partner with a good and qualified airline operator. Hence, the choice of DANA Air because of its proven track record and sincerity of purpose. According to him, the air line would give 10 percent discount to all Imo indigenes flying in the plane. The operation will also employ 30 percent of Imo sons and daughters to help in the management of the Imo air line.

Obasanjo plotting Buhari's replacement ahead of 2019

- Almost two years after, Nigerians are increasingly becoming agitated over the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari - Allegedly as a result, leaders of the north are already shopping for a replacement for the president in 2019 - Various sources revealed this to NAIJ.com as they believe that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is already gunning for two former governors The north is making moves to get an alternative to President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2019 general election, NAIJ.com has learnt from authoritative sources. It was further learnt that as the hunt commences, former President Olusegun Obasanjo seems to have settled for between his two allies, former governors of Jigawa and Kano, Sule Lamido and Rabiu Kwankwaso. EXCLUSIVE: North plotting Buhari's replacement ahead of 2019 Some northerners are said not to be happy with the Buhari administration Sources privy to the political situations in the north told NAIJ.com in the afternoon of Monday, January 23, 2017 that 2019 was one of the issues discussed when former President Goodluck Jonathan visited Obasanjo on Friday, January 20. According to one of the sources, Obasanjo, who is no longer happy with the current administration’s style of government, did not come out straight on his choice for 2019 at the meeting. However, his current ‘body language’ shows that he favours Lamido. Lamido, it was further revealed, has his eyes on the seat and has been mobilizing support ahead of the election. He is known to have said he would never leave the Peoples Democratic Party giving the impression that he would contest under the party platform. READ ALSO: Buhari has placed Nigerians under captivity - the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum “I can tell you that part of the discussion between Obasanjo and Jonathan centred on the 2019 election and the need to make the PDP stronger as an opposition party even though baba has decided to be a statesman. “He has not categorically mentioned or favoured anybody as a possible replacement for Buhari, but I can assure you that he has a soft spot for Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa. “There is this fear that Buhari cannot continue after 2019. He is daily becoming weak and the weight of the country’s challenges is very heavy,” the source from the north said. An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain from the north also confirmed the development but said that the ruling party was already in a fix. According to him, there are those prodding the president on even if it is not really known whether Buhari was really interested in the forthcoming election. He further disclosed that some northern leaders are no longer comfortable with the current administration as they believe that it had not favoured them. He however expressed optimism that Buhari would “weather the storm” when the time actually comes to decide who rules Nigeria in 2019. When contacted, the national president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shettima, told NAIJ.com that both Lamido and Kwankwaso are stooges to Obasanjo. “To us, the choice of Sule Lamido and Kwankwaso is no news. We know they are Obasanjo’s cronies and Obasanjo will do everything to make sure that his interests are protected. "Unfortunately, it is no longer going to be business as usual and Obasanjo’s interest cannot supersede the interest of the entire north and the entire north has not come out with anybody for now; we are still consulting and rubbing minds, but certainly, we will find an alternative to this government. “You can be rest assured of that. But the choice of Obasanjo can no longer be forced on any Nigerian. Lamido and Kwankwaso are not our choices for now,” Yerima said adding that the duo could be made president and vice president in Ota farms owned by Obasanjo. He added: “We will collectively look for alternative considering the fact that age has overtaken him and even when he means well for the country, he cannot do much and many people in the government are capialising on that to unleash terror on the people of the country and advise him wrongly. “It is clear to everybody that the government has been hijacked. This is one major opportunity that the north has and we will make hay while the sun shines by bringing in another person to fix this present quirmire.”

President Trump and his promised Immigration Actions

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will begin rolling out executive actions on immigration Wednesday, beginning with steps to tighten border security — including his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border — and other domestic immigration enforcement measures, according to two administration officials. Later in the week, the president is expected to take steps to restrict the flow of refugees to the United States. One official said the president was expected to roll out immigration measures over the next few days. The officials insisted on anonymity in order to confirm the plans ahead of Trump's official announcement. The president is expected to sign the first actions Wednesday during a trip to the Department of Homeland Security. Trump campaigned on pledges to tighten U.S. immigration policies, including beefing up border security and stemming the flow of refugees. He also called for halting entry to the U.S. from Muslim countries, but later shifted the policy to a focus on what he called "extreme vetting" for those coming from countries with terrorism ties. As president, Trump can use an executive order to halt refugee processing. President George W. Bush used that same power in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Refugee security vetting was reviewed and the process was restarted several months later. While the specific of Trump's orders were unclear, both officials said Wednesday's actions would focus in part on the president's plans to construct a wall along the southern border with Mexico. He has insisted Mexico would pay for the wall, though the Mexican government has repeatedly said it would not. Trump will meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto at the White House next week. The Trump administration also must adhere to a decades-old border treaty with Mexico that limits where and how structures can be built along the border. The 1970 treaty requires that structures cannot disrupt the flow of the rivers, which define the U.S.-Mexican border along Texas and 24 miles in Arizona, according to The International Boundary and Water Commission, a joint U.S.-Mexican agency that administers the treaty.

Hurricane Trump hits America: President deletes gay rights, other laws scrapped as Taliban threaten US

Emerging reports suggests that Donald Trump's new administration has deleted swathes of Barack Obama's pet policies from the White House website. Daily Mail reports that deleted from thewebsite were the phrases 'LGBT' rights and 'climate change.' A page in the issues section promoted an 'America First Energy Plan' that included a support for clean coal technology. The only reference to the climate is the elimination of an Obama-era environmental initiative to reduce carbon initiatives. Hurricane Trump hits America: President deletes gay rights, other laws scrapped as Taliban threaten US Chicago Tribune reports that The issues page of Trump's White House offered no new plans or policies but rather a rehash of many of his most prominent campaign promises - a signal to the nation that Trump, more pragmatic than ideological, plans to implement at least the key guideposts of his campaign vision. His policies include plans to both withdraw from and renegotiate major trade deals, grow the nation's military and increase cyber-security capabilities, build a wall at the nation's southern border and deport undocumented immigrants who have committed violent crimes. Several social issues disappeared from the WhiteHouse.gov site Friday, including a page dedicated to LGBT rights.

Governor Tambuwal urges Nigerians to pray for President Buhari

Nigerians have been urged to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari rather than heap blames on the country's number one citizen. This call was made by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Saturday, January 21, during an event organised to honour Aliyu Wamakko, the immediate past governor of the state, Daily Post reports. According to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Buhari has done a lot to reduce the prowess of Boko Haram terrorists in the country, and this is just one of the many things he is doing to make Nigeria a better place for all. He said: "The president has succeeded in tackling the problem of insurgency in the North East while other security challenges are receiving the necessary attention. The once dreadful Sambisa forest has now been cleared of insurgents and the happy story goes on. “President Buhari is also doing his best to doggedly fight corruption, diversify the economy and reduce poverty and unemployment. ”The president, therefore, needs the support and fervent prayers of all Nigerians, irrespective of creed, religion or ethnicity.” Meanwhile, reports that President Buhari has passed away in far away London has been denied by his media aide, Garba Shehu, who replied in a very angry manner to the reports about his principal's health status. The disturbing report had first been broken by an alleged fake Metro (UK) site that "quoted" the Nigerian mission in the country as confirming the president’s death. But in his reaction, Garba Shehu, the Buhari’s spokesperson, said: “He is alive and well! President Buhari is not magical. He cannot be holidaying in the UK and be in Germany, dead or alive at the same time.

The new President will be facing several challenges over many issues, including passing bills, attempts to possibly pass a vote of no confidence on the new President. That boat of the new President will be rocked.” This has generated a lot of positive and negative reactions of the church’s Facebook handle but many believed and supported the man of God.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Inauguration Day was a gray and occasionally drizzly affair in America’s capital, and anti-Donald Trump protesters turned out in force to demonstrate against the new president’s administration. Over 200 were arrested amid confrontations with police. The downtown streets of a city that voted more than 90 percent for Hillary Clinton were largely deserted with the exception of a mixture of anti-Trump protesters, many of whom were local, and Trump supporters, mostly from outside the area, trying to get through a complicated and shifting maze of barricades and security checkpoints. Stands and pens along the parade route were astonishingly empty by early afternoon. Democracy, it seemed, was in the streets. Small bands of protesters, unable or unwilling to reach designated protest zones, smashed the windows of vehicles and banks. Washington police said 217 demonstrators were arrested, and accused of rioting during inauguration protests. Six officers suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Trump signs first executive order, targeting Obamacare

President Trump salutes participants during the inaugural parade in Washington. (Photo: Carlos Barria/Reuters) President Trump signed his first executive order in the Oval Office late Friday, targeting Obamacare, as his administration ordered an immediate freeze on new regulations just hours after his inauguration. Asked to reflect on the day’s events, Trump told reporters: “It was busy, but good — a beautiful day.” Seated behind the iconic Resolute Desk, made from the timbers of a British exploration ship in the late 19th century, Trump also signed the commissions for his first two Cabinet nominees to win Senate confirmation: Defense Secretary James Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. He was surrounded by senior aides and advisers, including son-in-law Jared Kushner, Kellyanne Conway, Hope Hicks, National Security Adviser Mike Flynn, Stephen Miller and Marc Short. It was not immediately clear what the executive order would do to pave the way for Republicans to make good on their longstanding promise to repeal and replace Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement. White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters the order would “ease the burden” of the law. He did not share further details.
